Rochelle is a research professor and director of the National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health at Georgetown University. She has served as PI of over $80 million in research and education grants relating to policy formulation and program development in the delivery of health services to children and families, including the National Action Partnership to Promote Safe Infant Sleep, the Maternal and Child Health Library, and the Bright Futures Program. Her extensive publications include "Advancing Online Public Health Training Systems," "Pediatric Care Linkages to Improve Developmental Health," "Beginning Together: A Diary of Discovery for You and Your Baby," "Development as the Aim of Education" (HER 1972) and others. She also served as editor of Educating Children for Democracy (ISSA Journal) and as education director of the Infant Health and Development Program at Harvard University and research psychologist at Bank Street College of Education.

She serves as Director of Education and Bereavement Services for First Candle, a non-profit organization committed to ending Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Barb developed Straight Talk for Infant Safe Sleep, a training program for health and social service providers, and has contributed articles to Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology, and Neonatology Today. She is a national and international speaker on infant safe sleep, breastfeeding and grief, and the recipient of the Indiana State Department of Health Commissioner’s Award, Angel of Grace Award, Community Health Network “Recognition of Nursing Excellence,” “Patient Safety Award,” and CHE Lactation Team 2019 IBCLC Care Award. Her work is informed by her own experience as a mother of six and grandmother of 16 (and counting!), the loss of a son to SIDS, adoption, and parenting a child with special needs.
